Each day is the same
Always my bland charade
And with every click of my computer
All my emotions just fade
One day I awoke
And began my routine
I opened my closet
To find a suit nice and clean
Putting on my clothes
I spotted a hat
Buried under my socks
Crumpled and flat
My head was often uncovered
But I felt inclined to wear it
So I shrugged and I sighed
Just today I would bear it
As soon as I donned this lid
Reality began to transform!
And suddenly I spawned
In a busy college dorm
I cried out in shock
And the students did too
For a man had just appeared
Who looked at least 42
After a few moments
I came to the realization
My hat was the reason
For this teleportation
My hands reached to remove
This cap from my head
But it wouldn’t come off
It was glued on instead
So with an embarrassed look
At the students around
I raced down the hall, tripped
And promptly fell… up!
Yes, that is right
Towards the ceiling I rose
Then I bumped on a rafter
With the tip of my nose
I blacked out for a second
And when I came to
I was staring in the eyes
Of a large kangaroo
Again I released
A sound of surprise
For I thought right then
I had met my demise
But then the creature smiled
He extended his hand
“Welcome” he said
“To upside-down land”
I was not on the ceiling
No, not anymore
My hat had taken me
Through a transdimensional door
Cautiously looking around
A bizarre nation in view
Everything is upended
Including the kangaroo
Worriedly, I informed him
“I need to get back!”
Already I was craving
My mid-morning snack
The marsupial just laughed
While balancing on his head
“Why don’t you stay here
And eat our food instead?”
For a minute I forgot my fear
Of the surrounding scene
For I noticed some wine
In his transparent canteen
So I submitted to his offer
And we went on our way
I was excited about a meal
And maybe French Chardonnay
But when we arrived
He donned an evil grin
For in this reversed world
To do good is to sin
The kanga tied me up
Then prepared the spit
Dinner was still on
Apparently I was it!
But not all hope was lost
For my hat shook and trembled
I looked down at my bonds
And they all disassembled
I ran out of the room
But Roo heard my escape
So to quicken my flight
The hat made me a cape
Normally I would fail
Outrunning a kangaroo
But outflying him is a different story
And that’s just what I do
With my cape on my back
I soared through the air
The experience was thrilling
I was not at all scared
But there’s still one problem
I needed to get home
For that’s the only way
To finish this poem
So I recalled some physics
I learned back in class
If you moved fast enough
It would undo the past
So I burst into speed
With all of my might
And I successfully travelled
Faster than light
Through a tunnel of time
I zipped at an incredible rate
Just one thought I thought:
What troubles await?
